The Oakville Blades will live to play another game after beating the Burlington Cougars 7-2 on Saturday to force game six on Monday.

A poor turnover in the neutral zone led to a two-on-one goal for the Coguars. Nathan Gomes helped contribute on the play after passing the puck to a wide open Willie Paul, who one-timed the slap shot over the glove of Brendan McGlynn and in. It made it 1-0 Burlington before the first period hit the halfway point.

With 6:40 left in the first, the Cougars almost got their second of the game, but a Blades defenseman was there to save the day. McGlynn made a good stop originally on a Burlington forechecker, but the puck still managed to go through his legs. Fortunately for him, Paul Butler was right there to make a smart play, swiping the puck from crossing over the goal line.

With three minutes left, the Blades finally got themselves on the board. Patrick Kudla thought he had one after ringing the puck off the crossbsar, but he wasn't overly lucky. Peyton Reeves, on the other hand, was in a perfect spot to tap in the rebound, beating Andrew Lee after jamming the puck over the line to make it 1-1 heading into the intermission.

The second period started with enough excitement for the whole game. With under two minutes completed in the period, both Ryan Garvey and Bryce Misley found the back of the net for the Blades, only to have Chris Cobham score one for Burlington. First, Garvey, who came up clutch with the game seven winning goal against Orangeville a year ago, gave Oakville their first lead after scoring the first goal since game one of the series.

Then, seconds later, Bryce Misley made a nice little deke in front of the net, sending the puck top corner on Lee to make it 3-1 Blades. Cobham would get one back, however, firing a fast shot past McGlynn just as the two minute mark was closing in on the period to bring his team back within one.

Sixteen Mile thought they would get some time to breathe again, but another Blades goal sent everyone standing back up once again. This time, Drew Worrad would snipe one past Lee with 2:48 complete in the second, recovering Oakville's two goal lead once again.

The exciting second period wasn't done just yet. With three minutes to go, Brandon Lukezic scored a rare goal for the Blades after poking in the loose puck through Lee's legs and in, giving the Blades the 5-2 lead.

The Cougars elected to finish the game with Austin Washkurak, who was dangled by Jackson Bales with a few minutes left for Oakville's sixth goal of the contest. Washkurak would play well in the Cougars net, but one more goal from Garvey would cap off the impressive -2 victory for Oakville, keeping them alive heading into game six on Monday.

With the win, Oakville will fight once more to stay alive in Burlington on Monday, March 28, 2016 before hopefully returning back home for game seven. If game seven happens, we hope to see you at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex at 7:30 pm!
