Blades Captain Ryan Garvey Commits to St. Lawrence University

The Oakville Blades are pleased to announce that after tying for first in team scoring with 68 points, captain Ryan Garvey has committed to St. Lawrence University, a Division I NCAA team.

Prior to joining the Blades, Garvey played with the Oakville Rangers Midget AAA team, During the 2012-2013 season, Garvey led the team in scoring with 51 goals, 90 points and 56 PIM in 73 games to post a 1.23 point per game average during the year.

During his second season with Oakville, Garvey was named to Team Canada East for the 2014 World Junior A Challenge. In five games while playing for his country, Garvey finished with one assist. Garvey also played at two CJHL All-Star Challenge tournaments, winning the 2014 event with Team Oates after leading his team with three goals and two assists in five games.

Heading into his third season with the Blades in 2015-2016, Garvey was named the newest captain of the team, replacing Vince Palermo with the honour. Garvey took that in stride, posting career bests with 68 points to tie Josh Kosack for first in team scoring.

With his commitment, Garvey becomes the eighth Blade to commit to a Division I school, the fifth from the 2015-2016 season. Prior to Garvey's commitment, Drew Worrad (Clarkson), Ian Blacker (western Michigan), Patrick Kudla (Arizona State), Jackson Bales Josh Kosack (Union), Bryce Misley (Vermont) and Christian Rajic (Alabama Huntsville) had committed to the NCAA, with Tyler Rollo also making his mark by signing with the OHL's Peterbourgh Petes. Oakville currently leads the entire OJHL and OHA for Division I commitments, furthering the Blades dedication to helping players excel in both hockey in education.
