The Oakville Blades have taken a 2-0 series lead following a 3-2 win over North York on Sunday afternoon.

While the first period featured no scoring, the Blades and Rangers played a very tight opening frame to start the game. In similar fashion to the first contest, both goalies stood on their head, especially Blades puck stopper Brendan McGlynn who was coming off of a 42 save night on Friday.

With about seven minutes complete in the second, the Blades finally found a way to end the deadlock. After killing off penalties of their own in the first, Oakville took advantage of their first power play unit to make it 1-0. After some good passing around the net, Bryce Misley swung at the puck, which saw Ryan Foss pick it up in front. While falling, Foss knocked in the disk past Jeremie Lintner to make it 1-0 Blades.

Just past the halfway mark, the Rangers tied the game up at one. Also on their power play, Noah Robinson tapped in a pass in front of the crease and tipped in the pass to make it 1-1.

But a minute later, Oakville answered back. This time, Peyton Reeves picked up his own rebound in front and banged it over the goal line after a scramble, putting Oakville back in the lead.

With five minutes to go in the period, a familiar face potted another one to make it 3-1. Foss was at it again, with the former OHLer rushed to the net on the cycle and managed to beat Lintner on his tough side, his glove hand, to extend Oakville’s lead to 3-1.

With the third period half over, North York found themselves within a goal. Robinson  scored his second of the night after his shot hit McGlynn’s pad and flew just over the Blades netminder, bringing the Rangers close with the game winding down. Fortunately for the Blades, the team held on to the lead for the remainder of the contest to take the 3-2 victory and to sit with a 2-0 series lead heading into game three.

The two teams will head back to Oakville on Tuesday for game three, a 7:30 PM start at Sixteen Mile. Game four will return to North York on Wednesday, with a 7:00 PM puck drop. Hope to see you at the rest of our playoff games!
