The Oakville Blades came to life on Monday, beating the Georgetown Raiders 4-3 in overtime to force at least game five in the Southwest Division finals.

The first five minutes were action packed, and even saw the Blades get a huge save from a defenceman. Two minutes in, the puck managed to get past Brendan McGlynn, with Georgetown’s Andrew Court picking it back up. Fortunately, Jeff Clarke was there to tip the puck off the line, keeping the game scoreless.

That was, however, until Oakville scored on their next shot. At 3:53, Jack Jeffers took the puck on the rush and threw it back in front, bouncing off a defender’s leg. Drew Worrad didn’t mind, however, picking the puck up and making it 1-0 to give Oakville their first lead of the series.

With 2:32 left in the opening period, Matt Hayami got his first point of the playoffs in what was just his fourth playoff game with the team. Jack Ricketts tried his best to beat Josh Astorino, but Hayami scored from a similar spot as Worrad by knocking it in at the left post to make it 2-0 Blades heading into the intermission.

The Raiders would fight back to cut the lead by half a minute into the second. At 1:09, Jordan Crocker, who scored a hat-trick on Saturday, was in the same spot that both of Oakville’s goal scorers were at to beat McGlynn and in, making it 2-1 with a good portion of the contest still left to be played.

With under four minutes left to go in the second, the Raiders tied it up. Keagan Blasby scored one through McGlynn’s five-hole after jabbing at it while on the ice, just forcing it hard enough past the goal line to tie the game up at two heading into the second intermission.

At 7:31 in the third, the Raiders took the lead. Jack Jacome would give his team the advantage after picking up an Austin Cho rebound in close, beating McGlynn’s blocker side to make it 3-2.

Were the Blades done? When it comes to third periods, the Blades are never out of the game. At 10:52 on the power-play, Ryan Foss took a hard wrist shot on net, only to have Tyler Hildebrandt tip it in close and knot the game back up at three apiece.

Oakville new that a goal in overtime would hurt their chances of coming back at any point in the series, so Jackson Bales set out to change that. At 4:00, Nicholas Turenko pinched on a play and shot it towards the net, only to have the puck deflect to the right of Astorino. Jackson Bales was there to score one of the greatest goals of his junior career, firing it into the back of the net and forcing game five on Thursday by giving Oakville the 4-3 win.

The Blades will look to further extend the series with a 7:30 PM meeting at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex for game four on Tuesday. Hope to see lots of Blades fans in attendance!
