The Oakville Blades find themselves trailing 2-0 in their Southwest Conference final series against the Georgetown Raiders after losing 4-3 in Georgetown on Saturday evening.
Despite a better start out of Oakville in the first period compared to game one, the Blades managed to allow the first goal again. Jonathan Hampton scored three times on Wednesday and got the game started on Saturday after picking up a Jordan Anderson rebound to make it 1-0 Georgetown.
With nine seconds left in the opening period, the Raiders took the 2-0 lead. This time, Jack Jacome’s rebound would get deflected to Jordan Crocker, who picked up the disk and flicked it over Brendan McGlynn to double the Georgetown’s first period lead.
Nothing seemed to be going Oakville’s way, and it continued when Georgetown took the 3-0 lead thanks to the first power-play goal of the series. At the halfway point of the game, Josh Dickinson fed Crocker in front of the net, with the second goal scorer adding another after one-timing it in close.
At 13:28, the Raiders took the 4-0 lead. Crocker took the hat-trick after taking a pass from Jacome in front. Crocker would wait long enough for McGlynn to be out of position, but it was worth it for the Raider to get his third goal of the game.
Oakville scored late in the second to end Josh Astorino’s shutout. Ryan Foss made a great play to fight off a Georgetown defender before getting the puck in front of the net. Jackson Bales took the pass but was stopped before he picked up his own rebound and knocked it in, making it 4-1 heading into the intermission.
With five minutes completed in the third, a veteran presence got a goal for the Blades. Foss grabbed his second assist of the contest after feeding Sal FIlice at the point, with the 21-year-old defender taking a hard shot from the point to make it 4-2.
With 1:13 left in the game, the Blades scored again. This time, Peyton Reeves jammed at it in close and knocked it over the goal line, bringing the game close but time was running out. Unfortunately for Oakville, it wasn't enough to secure a comeback, with the Blades dropping their second straight game of the series.
Game three will see the two clubs head to Sixteen Mile Sports Complex on Monday evening, a 7:30 PM start. Hope to see you there!
