Two goals by Matthew Whittaker put an end to Oakville's incredible eight game winning streak as the North York Rangers defeated the Oakville Blades, 4-1.

The start of the first period was fast and furious. The Blades had strong puck possession early in the period, controlling the puck in the North York zone for the early part of the first period. However, it would take until the eight minute mark for Tanner Shaw to get the first shot of the game, a shot that Gianluca Baggetta absorbed to create just the second whistle of the contest.

Despite some good opportunities by the Blades, it would be Whittaker who would open the scoring up for North York. With Christian Rajic in the box, Whittaker picked up the loose puck up in front of Daniel Mannella, making no mistakes for the 1-0 goal.

The Rangers took the 2-0 lead in the first minute of the second. Former Blade Ryan Takamtsu beat Mannella with a great deke after some slick passing from Whittaker and Gabriel Valenzuela.

Oakville's issues continued late in the period. With three minutes remaining, Will Reilly's quick wrist shot was tipped by Ted Hunt, who got the puck over the glove of Mannella. That would spell the end of the night for the Blades goalie, who would get replaced by Brendan McGlynn for the remainder of the game.

The Blades looked depleted in the third period, but a late goal by captain Vince Palermo gave Oakville a bit of hope. Unfortunately, that meant nothing, as Whittaker got his second of the game when he picked up the loose puck in front of McGlynn and slipped it five hole. North York's fourth goal of the game was the final one in the contest, as the Rangers skated to a 4-1 victory to end Oakville's eight game winning streak.
