In a battle to see who would take over the lead in the south division, the Oakville Blades lost a 3-2 decision for the St. Michael’s Buzzers on Saturday night.

It took almost no time for the Blades to take the lead. At around 2:30, Ryan Foss sent the puck over to Jackson Bales, who then fed Bryce Misley in front. Misley didn’t get a good first chance at the puck, but made no mistake on the second go around as Oakville was able to take the 1-0 lead early.

But at 4:05, the Buzzers struck back. Cameron Wright was in all alone in the slot, rushing in on net. After getting a good grip on the puck, Wright flicked it over Brendan McGlynn’s glove and in for the 1-1 tie early in the contest.

With 1:13 left in the period, the Blades found themselves trailing. Finn Evans would break the tie, skating in and firing a hard wrist shot from the slot, giving the visitors the 2-1 lead.

The second period saw Oakville with the better puck control, but the Buzzers would be the next one to score. With 6:04 left in the second, Drake LaFontaine took a pass in front of the net and sent a hard wrist shot into the back of the net, putting the Blades behind by two goals in the game.

Oakville had their fair share of chances, and with seven minutes to go, they finally found themselves within one. After a great pass from Christian Rajic, Foss found himself with a chance to score. He didn’t waste any effort, taking a wild one-timer to the right of Cosmin Lazzarino and scoring to make it 3-2 late in the contest. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to change the winner on Saturday, with the Blades splitting the weekend with a win and a loss.

The Blades will be back at home next Saturday when the Mississauga Chargers come to town at 7:30 PM. Hope to see you there!
