The first 45 minutes of Saturday's match saw Oakville sustain pressure on ProStars FC, without being able to produce the goal they were clearly in search of.

Oakville was finally rewarded for their efforts in the 49th minute when striker Evan James found the back of the net. James was sprung on a partial breakaway by a delightful pass from Brandon Duarte. It saved his first shot, and potted his 5th goal on the campaign. His goal put the Blue Devils ahead.

For the next 15 minutes Oakville continued to breach the ProStars back line. Finally Duarte again set up  Evan James for the brace in the 64th minute. Oakville dominated their opponents creating many chances throughout the rest of the match, but they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.

Head Coach Duncan Wilde was satisfied with the win. But  he felt the team could have made more from their opportunities. The victory put the Blue Devils in a great place with only 3 games remaining in the regular season.

“The way the league is right now, I think we’re pretty well assured a top 4 spot so we’ll get home advantage/second game in the first round, but what we want to do is be in the top 2," stated Coach Wild.

"Then we know we’ll have home field advantage the whole way, both rounds, and I think that’s important, that we are closing games out at Bronte Athletic Field. Not in Vaughan somewhere or in Woodbridge somewhere. We want to be at home on the return leg. Our target all season has been top two”, he continued.

James' 2 goals move him into a tie for the team lead with his set up man Brandon Duarte, who also has 6 on the season.

Goalie, Luke Birnstingl had a relatively quiet night. He comes away with his 9th win of the season. The wins keeps his sheet clean for the 6th time in 2019.

The Blue Devils will return to action next weekend as they take on FC London at Sheridan College on Sunday, July 21st. Kickoff is at 5 pm.

The women will be playing earlier in the day with a 2 pm Start.
