Ready to join Oakville’s troupe of anti-violence walkers? Ready to work towards an end to violence against women? Guys – come join Halton Women's Place as individual walkers, or as part of a Hope in High Heals' team. Be sure to bring plenty of family and friends to cheer you on, as all are welcome – and showing your support for an end to a pervasive society problem counts.

Halton Women’s Place offers legal, counselling, and housing services to women and their dependants who are fleeing domestic violence. The Hope in High Heels event sees Oakville’s bravest gents strutting from Central Library to Town Square, in the signature pink and audacious heels, to raise awareness and funds in the fight against violence against women. With much popular interest, this event has grown exponentially over the past three years – suggesting anti-violence is, thankfully, on Oakville’s radar. According to Statistics Canada (2013), one in four women report having experienced domestic violence, with actual numbers likely being higher.

Registration begins at 10 am, in Centennial Square, outside the Central Library. Speeches follow from the town’s mayor and councillors, and the walk proper starts at 11 am. Complimentary coffee will be provided by Aroma Espresso Bar, and all walkers receive lunch, care of The Works restaurant, after. Actual walking time is only 15-20 minutes long, and the shoes are provided (in all men’s sizes) onsite. In addition to Aroma and The Works and Clarks Shoes have been generous sponsors of this event.

This year’s Hope in High Heels walk, in support of Halton Women’s Place, will take place in downtown Oakville this Sunday, September 27th. High heels will be available on-site, and the event co-ordinators ask  that you provide your shoe size upon registration.  Please contact HWP’s Carm Bozzo at [email protected] for more information or to register. Walkers and teams can also register via the HWP site, at www.haltonwomensplace.com. See you this Sunday!
