Have you ever seen what 10,000 juvenile salmon look like? The Bronte Village waterfront was alive with fish-lovers both young and young-at-heart waiting to help the “salmon-minnows” into their new home; a pen, in the Bronte Outer Harbour.

Visitors had a coffee, a hot dog, and shared fishing yarns as they enjoyed the displays and discussions on species fished in the local area. They also heard great information about ongoing stocking initiatives ..... such as the one they were there to celebrate - as they met at the Gazebo in Bronte Heritage Park at the corner of Bronte Road and Ontario Street in Bronte Village, Oakville.

Halton Region Salmon & Trout Association (HRSTA) received about 10,000 juvenile Chinook Salmon delivered by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry. A large crowd of local residents and tourists were enthusiastic in their support; helping HRSTA, Regional Councillor Sean O’Meara and Town Councillor Ralph Robinson fill the holding pen and experience the satisfaction of taking part in a local conservation initiative. This initiative has been five years in the making and is a wonderful partnership between Bronte Harbour Marina, Halton Region, MNRF, Town of Oakville, Conservation Halton and Halton Region Salmon & Trout Association. All parties are to be congratulated on their indulgence and perseverance to reach a successful outcome that will benefit many members of our community.

Oakville’s harbours are among the most scenic and productive on Lake Ontario. This weekend members of the Halton Region Salmon & Trout Association (HRSTA) welcomed the beginning of the 2015 Lake Ontario fishing season. However, some anglers have had a head start and are already catching Rainbow and Brown Trout from the piers, as well as Lake Trout a few hundred meters from shore. Learn how you can participate in this world class fishery. Discover what HRSTA is all about. After all Bronte is a nostalgic fishing port and the sport fishery is booming. “Fish With a Pro” was the theme chosen of the day!
