Home Suite Hope’s second annual Share the Hope Walk hit and far surpassed its fundraising target, raising over $40,000 for its programs that help Halton families struggling with homelessness.
The walk took place on Sunday, May 31 at South Oakville Mall. Despite the stormy weather and location change (originally planned for Coronation Park), registrants came out in droves with over 200 walkers taking part.
“It was wonderful to see the community come together,” said Michelle Pommells, President and CEO. “It was a great event and fun for the whole family. I am ecstatic by how much we raised, it’s fantastic.”
The day kicked off with an enthusiastic warm-up routine by the SweatShop Union and opening speeches by Home Suite Hope staff. The Kids Zone teemed with excited young ones getting their faces painted, doing crafts, and being entertained by Olaf from Frozen and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Once Oakville born-and-raised singer Matthew Robertson belted out O'Canada, the walkers were off on a 5K loop around the mall. They were then treated to music by Julie Neff, a pizza lunch, and prizes, which included a dinner for up to 15 team members at Glen Abbey Golf Course Club Link restaurant Eighteen for the Top Fundraising Team; an Apple 16GB iPad Mini for Top Fundraiser; and a pizza party for eight friends for Top Child Fundraiser, courtesy of PIZZAIOLO.
