The Oakville Blades didn't skate to a victory in their home opener at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex on Friday, but they managed to muster up a point thanks to a 2-2 draw against the Georgetown Raiders.

While the Blades were the hungrier team in the early stages of the game, it was the Raiders that found the back of the net first. Brendan McGlynn did a good job making the initial save, but after Josh Dickenson got the disk out to the point, William Santangeli was in the right spot to come in and took a hard wrist shot, giving the visiting team the 1-0 lead.

The Blades had a tough break happen with three minutes off the board. It looked like Jackson Bales had found a way to beat Andrew Masters, getting the puck over the line before it was dragged out by a Georgetown defender. From the ref's angle, it was hard to tell, meaning that the Blades were left without a goal.

At 4:51, the home team tied the game for their first goal of the season at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. Josh Kosack got all the credit for the play, skating in from the right corner before wrapping around the crease and in for the 1-1 goal.

About 20 seconds after that, the Raiders regained their advantage. This time, Bailey Molella managed to knock the puck off of Jack Rickett's leg and in, giving Oakville's rivals the lead once again.

That doesn't mean the Blades stayed trailing for too long. In fact, Christian Rajic made a fantastic play in front of the net to send the puck cross crease to Jackson Bales, who slapped the puck in at the doorstep for the 2-2 goal with seven minutes finished in the middle frame.

The third period saw some good, safe action between both teams, with McGlynn and Masters stealing the show later in the battle. Still, nobody found a way to put the puck in the back of the net, forcing a double overtime situation to take place. The Blades thought they had it in the bag when Kosack stole the puck in his own zone and skated in all alone, but Masters was quick with the right arm to keep the game tied.

Perhaps one of the best saves all season came in the dying seconds of the second and final overtime. With Georgetown's all alone, McGlynn made an incredible diving glove save, keeping the puck out of the net and to hold on to the tie. The 2-2 draw held for the remainder of the game, marking the first time such an event has taken place during the 2015-2016 OJHL season.

The Blades are back in action with a meeting against the Mississauga Chargers at Port Credit Arena Saturday night, an 8pm start. Oakville's next home game is set for next Friday, with the match to start at 7:30pm at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex.
