The Orangeville Flyers and Oakville Blades were evenly matched throughout the contest, but it was the visiting Flyers that would escape with a 4-2 victory.

The first period was definitely fast and furious. In fact, the whole 20 minute opening period took just under half an hour to play, with very few stops to go off of early. Both teams scored goals in that time frame; however, Oakville took the first one. Known as an electrifying figure on home ice, Josh Kosack found the back of the net after taking a nice slap shot towards the empty cage, beating goaltender Nicholas Latinovich, glove side, on just the second shot to give the Blades the 1-0 lead.

Despite the early lead, Orangeville got the most scoring chances thanks to an 18 shot frame. Two of those chances unfortunately found their way into the back of the net, with Brett Bannister's one-timer near the right face-off dot leading the charge. With just over a minute to go, Colin Rigney wrapped around the net and stuffed the disk past McGlynn, giving his team the 2-1 lead heading into the intermission.

The Blades didn't waste much time trying to tie the game up. With just under five minutes into the second, highly touted prospect Drew Worrad got his first goal of the season with a solid wrist shot of his own, beating Latinovich to tie the game up with most of the battle still left to be played. It was a good return for the Clarkson University commit, who missed the past two games after sustaining an injury in an 8-2 loss to Georgetown in the second game of the season.

The Flyers would answer back with 9:44 left to go. This time, James Ranson's shot from the high slot proved to be too much for McGlynn, potting Orangeville's third goal of the game for the 3-2 lead. The Flyers would double it up before the end of the second, with Kosta Likourezos getting the snipe for the 4-2 lead heading into the second intermission.

The third period started off fast, but a ten minute delay would bring things to a quick halt. With Orangeville skating around Oakville's zone, the power went out at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, resulting in a bit of a break for both teams. That worked out for both squads, who came out hungrier and more determined to add more numbers to the scoreboard. Unfortunately for the home town Blades, they weren't able to find an extra goal late in the game, resulting in a 4-2 loss to fall 1-3-1 to start the sesaon.

Oakville's next game is set for Sunday, a 2:00pm puck drop on the road in St. Mike's. Oakville will return home on Friday, October 2nd when the North York Rangers come to town for their first meeting of the season.
