The Oakville Blades 50th season has come to an end following a game six loss to the Georgetown Raiders at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex on Saturday night, April 8, 2017.
The first 40 minutes were filled with strong goaltending as both Brendan McGlynn and Josh Astorino stopped 20 pucks each. McGlynn’s biggest stop came early in the third period as McGlynn managed to keep out a Keegan Blasby breakaway at start of the period.
At the other end of the ice, Drew Worrad had an incredible chance to score one for himself, but got caught short on the most dangerous scoring chance at the time. Worrad picked up the loose puck in front and managed to deke out Astorino, but the puck just hit the post and deflected wide.
Unfortunately for Oakville, Georgetown would score the first goal of the game. At 2:56, Blasby took a feed from Ryan Miotto, sniping the puck top corner past McGlynn to make it 1-0.
With 5:56 left in the game, Georgetown put the dagger in the heart of the Blades. Andrew Court received a pass from Josh Dickinson and fired the puck past McGlynn’s glove, making it 2-0 for the Raiders. It would unfortunately put an end to Oakville’s season, with the Raiders advancing to the OJHL finals.
The Blades would like to thank everybody for their tremendous support during the team’s 50th season! There is no doubt that it was one of the most memorable in the history of the franchise and we’re looking for more success next year!
