The Oakville Blades and Toronto Jr. Canadiens battled it out for the second straight night and just like on Friday, the Blades were able to take home the victory thanks to a strong 7-4 performance.
For the second straight day in a row, Peyton Reeves would find a way to get things started off right. A former Toronto Jr. Canadiens major midget player, Reeves was in the slot at exactly the right moment, picking up a rebound from Brendan Doherty just four minutes in for the 1-0 goal early in the game.
Before the first half of the opening period came to a close, the Toronto Jr. Canadiens were able to put the puck in the back of the net. JRC had a very strong power-play, keeping the Blades at bay for the full two minutes. Unfortunately for the team in blue, Anthony Trujillo would make them pay after converting on a rebound left out by Brendan McGlynn to tie the game up at one apiece.
Similar to Reeves earlier in the game, Oliver Benwell would show why no matter what your role is with the team, you have the ability to play at a high level when given the chance. Benwell, who scored against Toronto on Friday as well, would give Oakville the 2-1 lead after his wrist shot proved to be too dangerous for Brendan Bonello with five minutes remaining in the first.
With just over two minutes completed in the second period, the Blades were able to secure a two-goal advantage. Bryce Misley, one of the best players in the OJHL over the past few weeks, gave Oakville a 3-1 lead after using his powerful backhand shot to beat Bonello.
Drew Worrad had a rough game at times, having to leave the ice twice for two separate injuries. That didn't stop him from scoring a beautiful goal. Using his wicked slap shot to beat Bonello up high on a two-man advantage, he gave Oakville a 4-1 lead. It was as nice of a shot as you could possibly take that used extreme power to fool the Canadiens goaltender.
Toronto would find a way to cut Oakville's lead in half before the second period was five minutes over. Andrew Mullen took a good shot from the point, but it would be Adam DeLuca who would tip the puck in over McGlynn and in that made it 4-2.
Penalties were the name of this game, with the two rivals combined penalties equalling 82 minutes. Shortly after Reeves and Dave Zeppieri dropped the gloves, Misley would get his second of the night after converting on another Blades power-play, giving him his 12th goal of the season and his team the 5-2 lead late in the contest.
The scoring came fast and furious with about five minutes to go in the period. Andrew Mullen would score twice for the Canadiens. The two markers on solid shots gave his team four goals for the night. The Blades made sure to break up the two goals. New Union College commit Josh Kosack found the back of the net and regained the two-goal lead. The Blades got an extra marker from defensive superstar Patrick Kudla with under two minutes to go which giving his team the 7-4 victory on Saturday and ended any chance of a JRC comeback.
