Oakville Blades defenseman Greg Campbell has been named to Team Canada East at the upcoming World Junior A Challenge in November.

Campbell is a multi-sport athlete that also competes with the Oakville Buzz lacrosse team. The eighteen year old defenseman joined his hometown Blades last season after playing his way through the Oakville Rangers ‘AAA’ organization. He would record two penalty minutes during a brief stint with the Milton Icehawks during the 2011-2012 season before joining the OJHL full time last year. So far this season, Campbell has recorded seven assists and eights points to go with his 28 points from the previous campaign. Additionally, Campbell was named an assistant captain with the club earlier this month.

“When Greg called me and told me he had made Team Canada East I was speechless,” said Oakville Blades owner Rob Campbell. "I am so proud of him but especially proud of him representing the Oakville Blades at these World Championships. I know he has worked so hard to get to this point. He truly has had the benefit over these last couple of years of junior, to have had great coaching starting with Kevin Gomes and his staff for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. As a Dad, I know Jane and his brothers Jeff and Bryan are just so happy for him. As part of this great organization, The Oakville Blades, I know along with this there will be many more exceptional proud moments for all of us. Hold on to your hats Oakville."

“(I'm) just thrilled and ready for the opportunity to represent my country,” Greg had to say. “It was a great experience going through camp and ready to move on to the big stage.”

Canada East, Russia and the United States will compete in Group A during the 2013 World Junior A Challenge while Canada West, Czech Republic and Switzerland will complete Group B. The tournament will run from November 4th-10th in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, with the gold medal game getting show nationally on TSN on Sunday, Nov. 10.
