The Oakville Blades pulled out a 4-3 overtime victory over the Toronto Jr. Canadiens on a clutch goal by Tyler Rollo.

The Blades were hungry in the first, despite allowing the first shot just eleven seconds into the game. The home team would looked much stronger from the get go. Thanks to a shaky Toronto defence, the Blades scored their first goal of the contest just before half-way, when Jackson Bales stole the puck off of Toronto forward Kevin Hancock and potted the 1-0 marker.

Toronto would strike back at the 12 minute mark. With Vince Palermo in the box, Nicholas Jazabek took a wicked slap shot from just inside the zone, beating Brendan McGlynn cleanly top shelf. Penalty trouble would once again damper Oakville’s performance on the ice in the second, as a penalty to Christian Rajic allowed Toronto captain Anthony Repaci to score a beautiful goal by batting the puck past McGlynn and in.

The impressive Toronto performance continued. Four minutes after their second goal, and just their first shot since the last one, Kennedy Duguid made a spectacular deke around an Oakville defenseman before sending it off to Anthony Trujillo, who tapped in the puck right underneath McGlynn’s pad. The goal would spell the end for McGlynn, who unfortunately allowed three goals on the first 11 shots of the contest.

The Blades weren’t out of it just yet. With just under six minutes remaining in the contest, Ryan Burns sent the puck from his stomach to Tyler Rollo, who sniped the puck past the Toronto goaltender and in, cutting the deficit to just one.

The Blades had looked like they had finally tied the game up with five minutes to go on what appeared to be Bales’ second goal of the game. However, that wouldn’t be the case, as the ref’s called it off after it was declared that #21 had actually kicked the puck in. It wasn’t a popular call at Sixteen Mile, as boos were coming left and right for a good minute after the announcement was made. The Blades made up for it with 2:08 remaining in the game, as Matt Lippa’s wrist shot from just outside the faceoff circles found its way through a screen and in for the tying goal.

The game couldn’t find a victor in regulation, so it would require not one, but two overtimes to decide who would leave with the extra point. The home team would leave the ice with smiles on their faces, as a great pass by Tanner Shaw made its way to Rollo, who got his second goal of the game ending the contest after 66 minutes of action.
