Come to the YMCA this Sunday, June 1 to celebrate YMCA Healthy Kids Day, a national day dedicated to improving the health and well-being of kids and families.

An action-packed event for the entire family, YMCA Healthy Kids Day places special emphasis on how healthy living can be seriously fun and provides families with simple tips and resources to live healthy every day. This free community event is for everyone in our community and is hosted by YMCAs across Canada.

The YMCA believes healthy kids are the foundation and future of healthy communities. But the majority of children and youth in Canada are not getting adequate access to opportunities for active recreation and healthy living. According to the 2014 Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth from Active Healthy Kids Canada, children in Canada are still not being active enough.  An alarming 32% of 5-17 year olds are overweight, and only 5% of five to 17-year-olds are meeting the 60 minutes a day Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines. Canada excels at providing programs to support physical activity, but once again received a failing grade for overall physical activity levels.

“The health of our children is a serious matter, one that is very important to the YMCA and should be a top priority for parents, schools and all Canadians, says Kyle Barber, President and CEO at the YMCA of Oakville. “Raising healthy children is a community effort and together with our community partners and exhibitors on YMCA Healthy Kids Day, we’ll demonstrate simple ways we can all come together to help our kids become active and healthy,” says Mr. Barber.

Join us on Sunday, June 1 for an engaging day of fun and exciting activities for holistic health!
