This Saturday, September 10, walkers in Oakville will be hoping to raise $30,000 by joining the more than 10,000 everyday heroes across the Canada when they participate in the 3rd annual Oakville Parkinson SuperWalk, taking place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at RioCan Oakville Place Mall.
Anyone can become an everyday hero by taking part in the Oakville walk or by supporting someone who will be walking. All you have to do is go to http://www.ParkinsonSuperWalk.ca to register for a fun, family outing with a special purpose or to donate by supporting a walker.
“Events like Parkinson SuperWalk enable us to deliver much needed services within the community and fund research into improved treatments and a cure,” says Nicole Medcalf, Oakville Parkinson SuperWalk coordinator. “And this event is very inspiring to those living with Parkinson’s and their families when they see their friends and neighbours taking part in this special event or supporting walkers with donations.”
More than 100,000 Canadians live with Parkinson’s. And every hour of each day, another Canadian will be diagnosed. Parkinson’s is a disease of the brain that touches almost every aspect of daily living, including: movement, mood, speech, ability to smell, eating and drinking, sleep and cognitive abilities. It worsens over time, robbing a person of their independence through increasing disability, and ultimately results in premature death. A cure can’t wait!
Parkinson SuperWalk provides the opportunity for participants to raise funds and awareness on behalf of all Canadians living with Parkinson’s. Since 1981, Parkinson SuperWalk has raised more than $34 million, which is invested in communities across Canada to provide support services, education and advocacy for people affected by Parkinson’s and for Parkinson’s research into improving treatments and finding a cure.
