Kick off the holiday break with the RBC Skate in the Square in Downtown Oakville. There will be live music, skating demonstrations, tasty treats and of course the opportunity for everyone to test out the synthetic rink on Friday December 20th 7-11am.

“The businesses of Downtown Oakville are really excited to have a rink for their customers and visitors to enjoy,” said Sharlene Plewman, executive director Downtown Oakville BIA. “We are especially excited about the community involvement and local products that are being used and showcased.”

The businesses of Downtown Oakville and the rink sponsors are thrilled by the support behind the rink. All products were sourced locally from Total Sport Solutions and our generous sponsors are all based in Oakville. RBC involvement with the rink is a perfect fit; showcasing community involvement through sports and initiatives like the Learn to Skate program.

RBC Olympian and community ambassador Becky Kellar-Duke will be on hand to meet fans. Becky Kellar competed at the first four Olympic Winter Games in which women’s ice hockey was included, winning one silver and three gold medals. Kellar was a member of the Canadian Women’s National Team from 1997 to 2010. During that time, she won four world championship titles in seven appearances, taking silver the other three times.

Khachi Design Group has generously put together a “Winter Lounge” for rink events. Porsche Centre Oakville is bringing a vehicle down for visitors to see and a special guest, in the afternoon for skaters to meet with. It will be an exciting event for all involved.

This winter from the end of December through February the merchants of Downtown Oakville and the BIA are offering FREE skating daily in Towne Square. To celebrate the new rink there will be a grand opening on January 4, 2014 from 11-1pm and an Olympic celebration on February 7, 2014.
