How to avoid a digger, becoming a prune and why you should wear a brain bucket/ Bike Helmet - Raising awareness of cycling safety in Halton Region.
The Halton Regional Police Service, Halton Region, the four local municipalities, Ontario Cycling Association, Epic Tour Halton and members of the farming community are committed to raising awareness about safe cycling.
More than 100 visitors of all ages attended the Safe Cycling Open House on Saturday, June 3, 2017 and had the opportunity to visit with community partners, tour the Velodrome, try out the track for free, check out farming equipment and learn more about safe cycling in Halton Region.
“This was an opportunity for the police and our partners to have a conversation with cyclists about the rules of the road and to promote safe cycling practices, especially around farm equipment that also use our rural roadways,” said Staff Sergeant Rob Lloyd, Traffic Services Unit. “Safety on our roadways is a shared responsibility.”
Community concern over traffic issues and the number of incidents involving death and serious injury has increased in Halton Region. And with good reason: traffic safety remains a key concern in public safety risks facing our community today. Traffic safety is a priority for everyone – motorists, cyclists and pedestrians – and is a shared responsibility. Road safety is a two-way street. Mutual respect, road rules and responsible behaviours are crucial when sharing the road.
The HRPS’ commitment to road safety supports its 2017-2019 Corporate Business Plan that launched in January: Community Safety and Well-being, and Outreach and Collaboration.
