Oakville Sustainable Transportation Coalition Seeks Input at Spring Workshop

11334_160684834082614_734161367_n The Oakville Sustainable Transportation Coalition (OSTC) will be hosting a workshop on March 23, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Oakville Town Hall  located at 1225 Trafalgar Road.  What would make walking, biking and public transit easier and more fun for you? OTSC wants to know!

“We’re excited to be working together.” said Blake Poland of Oakville Cycles & Go Local Oakville. “As like-minded groups, we are interested in promoting walking, cycling and public transit as safe and fun alternatives to private automobiles for short errands and outings.”

For environmental, health, and economic benefits, there are many people who want to shop locally, meet up with friends, and travel to school or work without relying on a car. For many it’s easy to identify barriers to choosing active, greener ways to travel.

The challenge that the OSTC is embarking on is to identify the short, medium, and long term solutions to support sustainable transportation and build on community assets.   Oakville is moving in the right direction, with accomplishments such as the Oakville Active Transportation Master Plan, free transit for seniors on Mondays and many volunteer-based organizations with a passion for sustainable transportation.

The OSTC includes members from Go Local Oakville, Green Trans, Oakville Cycling Club, Oakville Cycles and many others from local environmental and cycling groups, businesses, government, and individual town residents.
