Steve Maloney has entered the municipal election for the position of town councillor of Ward 1.

He is going against 82-year-old incumbent Ralph Robinson, who has held the position since 1982.

Mr. Maloney feels that the Ward needs a fresh face with new ideas that are based on solid information about his constituents. He feels his expertise, as a human resources trainer for the past 25 years, will bode well for the community. One of his first steps is to set up an on-line survey system, where people can help him understand what is important to them.

“It is a very methodical approach to contacting and gauging the thoughts of the community,” stated Mr. Maloney.

Maloney has been extremely active in Oakville as the Grand Knight (CEO/President) for the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic men’s service group which raises and donates approximately $100,000 each year to 50 community charities. He has held the position of Grand Knight for 3 plus years making Steve one of the longest serving Grand Knights in the organization.

“The position involves getting 400 men all moving in the same direction,” shared Maloney about his ability to get things done.

Mr. Maloney was born in Aylmer, Ontario, which is why the Village of Bronte felt so comfortable for him. He has his wife of 25 years raised their children in the community, and have very strong ties in Bronte.

“Of the 400 men in the Knights of Columbus, over 2/3rd s live in Ward 1,” says Maloney.

The main issues he feels that are facing Bronte are the lack of public parking, the blight of Bronte Mall due to two owners who don’t get along, and increasing the beauty of the area.

When asked about his plans regarding his company, he indicated that he would continue its operation should he become town councillor for Ward 1.
