Wendy Elizabeth de Jaray, born September 12, 1940, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2024, at the age of eighty-three.

A graduate of U of T with a degree in physiotherapy/occupational therapy, Wendy went on to have a long and successful career. She opened her own clinic, The Oakville Physiotherapy Center, which she operated for over twenty years. Many may remember seeing Wendy, with her red hair and sunglasses, driving her corvette to and from town. A little-known fact, she really wanted to be a race car driver. Luckily for many in Oakville she pursued a career in physiotherapy.

On retiring from physiotherapy, Wendy turned her attention to gardening, creating stunning flower beds. Her gardens were so beautiful that her house became a popular stop for evening walkers who would pause to admire them.

Wendy could not stay retired long. A short time later she and her longtime friend Sue White opened a music store in downtown Oakville. They operated L’Atelier Gregorian, a classical and jazz music store, for six years.

Following another brief retirement, during which her gardens flourished even more, she returned to the work force. Wendy trained as a medical secretary working for local physicians until she finally retired.

Wendy was a strong advocate for women’s rights. Whether fighting for pay equity for physiotherapists or as a long-time active member of Zonta International, she was breaking down gender barriers. Wendy was tireless in her volunteerism throughout her adult years. In retirement she continued her passion for community involvement serving on several committees and as a member of the local Anglican Church.

Wendy is survived by her daughter Lesley (Marc Donadieu), son Michael (Laurie Reive), grandson Robert (Maria Fulea), granddaughter Kimberly (Brandon Hoffman), and grandson Scott (Rose Harakh) and great granddaughter Eden.

Per Wendy’s wishes, there will not be a service, funeral, or celebration of life. A private gathering will be held in the new year where her friends and family will gather in her honor. In lieu of flowers, Wendy suggests donations be made to the Oakville Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
