It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sylvia Anne Leifso, née Rider, who peacefully left this world on January 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. A devoted wife, cherished mother, and dear friend to many, Sylvia brought light and joy to all who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband, Terry; her children, Tammy and Brock (Jennifer); and her siblings, Mary Ellen (Frank), Laurie, June, Sam, Barry (Cathy), Bill (Brenda), and Tim (Sharon) along with her many nieces and nephews.

The deep love she had for her family was the foundation of her life. She found immense happiness in nurturing her loved ones and creating a warm, loving home filled with laughter and kindness. Sylvia had a special appreciation for the simple yet profound beauty of life. Her love for flowers was evident in her home and garden, where every bloom was a testament to her care and passion. A gifted painter, she captured the world’s beauty with brushstrokes, leaving artwork that will forever remind us of her gentle spirit. She enjoyed playing games, cherishing the time spent with friends and family, and the lasting memories created.

Sylvia dedicated many years to education, teaching with the Halton and Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Boards. Her work in speech therapy supported countless schoolchildren in finding their voices, while her efforts teaching English as a Second Language helped adult newcomers build new lives in Canada. Beyond education, Sylvia gave back as a volunteer with the Oakville Crisis Centre and shared her passion for gymnastics as a coaching assistant.

A loving and compassionate person, Sylvia touched the lives of everyone she met with her generosity and kindness. She had a unique ability to make people feel seen, valued, and loved. Her absence leaves a deep void in our hearts, but the memory of her and the love she gave so freely will continue to inspire us.
Sylvia will be dearly missed but never forgotten. We find comfort in knowing her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held for family and friends on Friday, March 7 from 1-3 pm at Glen Oaks Funeral Home, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, L6H 7A8. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity or cause in her honour.

You will always be in our hearts.
