1948 - 2024
Surrounded by family, Mauri passed away quietly after a long battle with Alzheimer’s on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at the age of 76.
Mauri is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sue; sisters: Hely (Ken) Keen, Eila (Mike) Kelly and Leena (Bernie) Philip, and their families; sisters-in-law: Jackie (Tom; deceased) Whitfield, Gerry Gowland (Tim Thorne; deceased), Sharon Bryan, Christine Robertson (Todd Roelens), and their families. Predeceased by his parents, Martti and Rauha; sisters, Marja Lisa Poulin and Eila Podolski; and sister-in-law, Patti Collins.
Born in Finland, his family immigrated to Canada when he was four years old, settling in Sudbury, Ontario. He attended Queens University, attaining his Bachelor of Applied Science and Masters of Business Administration degrees. Directly after university, Mauri went to work for Ford Motor Company of Canada, which was what he always wanted to do. Mauri worked for Ford for 30 years, during which time he had the opportunity to work in all facets of the business, from the plant, to marketing and finance. After a fully rounded career, he became the Vice President of Finance. After many years, he took the opportunity to retire early, to enjoy his time between the U.S. for the winter, and Canada in the summer. In retirement, he settled with his wife Sue in a London, Ontario golf course community, where they met new friends and had great times, both on and off the golf course. Mauri was happiest when he could make others laugh. His smile was infectious and he brought so much joy into the lives of those around him.
