Homeless Jesus: A Christian Perspective

Homeless Jesus by Timothy Schmalz Homeless Jesus by Timothy Schmaltz

A Good Friday Reflection

Walk by the corner of Wellesley and Queen's Park East, across from the Macdonald Government building in Toronto, and glance once at the bench newly installed.  A homeless person is sleeping on the bench.  Glance twice and you see it's  a sculpture of a homeless person. Only when you glance a third time, you see the wounds.

Nail holes in the feet.

Sculptor Timothy Schmaltz was shocked when he first saw homeless people sleeping on the street when he came to Toronto.  It changed his life, he said.  This sculpture is the result, dedicated on Wednesday, March 27.

The Homeless Jesus.

Identified with the most marginalized in society.

They asked, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?” Then he will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.” Matthew 25.45

Perhaps he has the power to change your life  .Perhaps he has the power to change the life of the world.
