19-year-old from Oakville arrested in violent Toronto carjacking bust

A 19-year-old man from Oakville is one of three individuals arrested as part of a carjacking investigation in Toronto. During the arrests, three firearms and over $18,000 in Canadian currency were seized.

A 19-year-old man from Oakville is one of three individuals recently arrested in connection with a carjacking investigation conducted by the Toronto Police.

The three suspects collectively face 54 charges and two suspects were charged for violating release orders.

The arrests were announced On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, during a media conference held at the Toronto Police headquarters. Acting Superintendent Susan Gomes of Specialized Criminal Investigations, Superintendent Andy Singh of 31 Division, and Inspector Joseph Matys of the Hold Up Squad provided details.

According to police reports, the incidents occurred on April 6 and April 11, 2024, in the areas of Ellesmere Road and Kennedy Road, and Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue, respectively.

On April 6, 2024, at around 2 p.m., police say a victim was targeted by three male suspects wearing all-black clothing and masks. The suspects demanded vehicle keys at gunpoint and ended up taking the victim's blue BMW X5 after a confrontation in a parking lot. Police say no injuries were reported.

On April 11, 2024, at approximately 8 p.m., Toronto Police officers responded to another carjacking at a gas station. It is alleged that four male suspects exited a gray sedan and approached the owner of a 2021 white Lamborghini Urus at the gas station. The suspects are alleged to have repeatedly assaulted the victim, took their keys and fled in the Lamborghini.

The victim was transported to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

The following day on April 12, 2024, just before 10:30 p.m., officers were conducting a stolen vehicle investigation in the Islington Avenue and Steeles Avenue West area.

Officers passed by a white Lamborghini Urus on Islington Avenue and were alerted that it was a stolen vehicle by their Automatic Licence Plate Reader (ALPR).

Officers followed the Lamborghini to a parking lot at Barmac Drive where the driver of the vehicle exited and entered an establishment (not disclosed by Toronto Police). While watching the Lamborghini, officers then observed a BMW X5 arrive at the same parking lot, allegedly the same blue BMW involved in the carjacking on April 6.

When the BMW attempted to leave the area, officers moved in to make arrests. The driver then allegedly reversed up a hill, smashing into several police vehicles while trying to evade arrest, narrowly missing officers. Police boxed the vehicle in but the driver refused to comply and made another attempt to flee.

Officers were eventually able to arrest all three occupants in the vehicle.

Further investigations led officers to recover the stolen vehicles, including a 2024 BMW X5 and a 2021 Lamborghini Urus, with a combined value exceeding $575,000. During the arrests, three firearms and over $18,000 in Canadian currency were seized.
