Garbage truck fire closes Speers Road; police rule out suspicion

An early morning fire yesterday shut down Speers Road from Bronte to Third Line. Halton Police have now released details on the situation.

An early morning fire yesterday, Monday, July 8, 2024, shut down Speers Road from Bronte to Third Line as police and firefighters managed the situation.

Halton Police have now released details on the situation:

According to Constable Ryan Anderson, police received a call at 6:20 a.m. on July 8, 2024, for a garbage truck that was on fire in the eastbound lane of Speers Road.

Police shut down the road while Oakville Fire put out the flames and the vehicle was removed. The road was reopened by 9:35 a.m.

Police say no injuries were reported and that the cause of the fire is still unknown though it is not suspicious. 

No injuries were reported and no damage estimate is currently available.
