Man charged with assault following a fight after a soccer game at Shell Park

Police say a noxious substance, suspected to be bear spray, was deployed by one of the suspects.

A 27 year old man will go to court following a police investigation that led to assault charges after a soccer game at Shell Park in Oakville.

On Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024, officers responded to reports of a disturbance involving a knife at Shell Park, located at 3307 Lakeshore Road West.

According to Halton Police Media Relations Officer Jeff Dillon, investigation determined that a physical altercation occurred after a soccer game involving seven to eight individuals.

Police say a noxious substance, suspected to be bear spray, was deployed by one of the suspects and two victims were treated for minor injuries.

A 27-year-old male suspect from Angus, Ontario, was subsequently charged with two counts of assault and two counts of assault with a weapon. 

Police say that while initial reports indicated a knife, no knife was observed during the incident.

Police say the accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
