An Oakville 23-year-old was involved in a fatal incident last weekend that police are connecting to a submerged vehicle at Ashbridges Bay Park in Toronto.
Oakville's Kristjan Serraj has been charged with Dangerous Operation Cause Death.
Last Sunday, Jan. 19, Toronto police responded to a call from a Marine Rescue which involved a vehicle that entered the water.
Police allege that two people were in a vehicle that entered the water, the male driver was able to exit the vehicle and police arrived entering the water in hopes that they could extract the female passenger with the assistance of the Marine Unit.
The woman was returned to the surface and transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries and sadly the woman later died in hospital.
The woman was later revealed to be Agnesa Shukull, an Albanian immigrant who moved to Canada in 2021 with dreams of creating a better life for her and her family.
"Agnesa was a kind and beautiful soul who touched the hearts of everyone she met," says Shukull's friend Kristian Pasku.
"She was a loving daughter, a caring sister, and a friend who made everyone feel special. Her smile could light up a room, and her warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to know her."
Pasku wrote a full statement on a gofundme page set up to raise money for Agnesa's family. The page is also to help raise money to bring Agnesa's body back to Albania so she can be layed to rest in her home country.
