Oakville traffic stop leads to dozens of firearms and drug charges

Charges includes careless use of firearms, possession of drugs for trafficking, and driving while impaired

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has laid multiple charges on two people after loaded firearms and drugs were found during an Oakville traffic stop.

Yesterday (Thursday, Dec. 19) at 9:05 a.m., the HRPS was made aware of a possible impaired driver operating a black Honda Civic in the area of the QEW and Bronte Road in Oakville.

Officers responded locating the suspect vehicle at Bronte Road and Saw Whet Boulevard and a traffic stop was conducted. An investigation was undertaken during which three loaded firearms and a quantity of illegal drugs were located inside the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation the driver of the vehicle, Rafe Chowdhury, 27, of Hamilton has been charged with the following:

  • Operation While Impaired - Drugs
  • Possession of Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized (three counts)
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (three counts)
  • Careless Use of a Firearm (three counts)
  • Unauthorized Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle (three counts)
  • Carry Concealed Weapon (three counts)
  • Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition (three counts)
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Hydro Morphine
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking - Oxy

The vehicle passenger, Sabrina Vieira, 23, of Innisfil has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized (three counts)
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (three counts)
  • Careless Use of a Firearm (three counts)
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle (three counts)
  • Carry Concealed Weapon (three counts)
  • Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition (three countss)
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Hydro Morphine
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking - Oxy

Chowdhury and Viera were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
