At the corner of Kerr Street and Rebecca has been the site of the public Kerr Village Development project that encompasses the new fire station, a recreation centre, and new seniors centre along with the re-development of Trafalgar Park and Oakville Arena.

Brian Gray, a local photographer recently toured the new facilities just a few weeks before the official opening. As his photographs show Oakville now has new state of the art facilities.

Fire Station

The new fire station will be replacing the older and out-dated facility at Navy and Randall. It features state of the art equipment in a building that will last for years.

Recreation Centre

There wasn’t a recreation centre that served Kerr Village, West River, West Harbour, part of West Oakville and South-West Oakville. The new recreation centre refurbished and enlarged the Oakville Arena. It will house a new seniors’ centre that will replace the current one located mid-way up Kerr Street.

Other amenities available at the new recreation centre include:

  1. yoga studio/gym
  2. multiple purpose room with drop down screens, two overhead projectors, plus floor to ceiling dividers
  3. walking track
  4. basketball court
  5. concession stand
  6. meeting room with kitchen

Trafalgar Park

Trafalgar Park now includes a multi-season sports pad. The pad can be used as a tennis court in the summer, and a skating rink in the winter. New play ground equipment has already been installed with a rubberized floor to protect our children.

This new Ker Village Development provides access to new activities, a fire hall that will keep us all safer, while retaining the Oakville Arena’s heritage roof structure.
