We are in for another round of very wet weather, so I hope you enjoyed yesterday’s sunshine. Environment Canada’s rainfall warning is in effect from today, Thursday, May 4, 2017 to Saturday, May 6, 2017. The showers will start this morning, and then we’ll see heavy rainfall for the next few days.

Oakville’s creeks and streams are already running at near record levels, and Lake Ontario is so high, that many of harbours are delaying boat launches. This week the town has closed natural turf fields, and waterfront trails are being monitored closely (with closures if necessary.) Even TOWARF has had to move their boat, because their dock is underwater.

Here is Environment Canada’s Rainfall Warning that was issued for Oakville, Ontario on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 4:47 AM:

Heavy rain is expected. The ground, already near saturation, has little ability to absorb further rainfall.

40-70 mm of rain expected today through Saturday.

Rain will spread into the region this afternoon and is forecast to persist through Saturday as the weather system responsible stalls over the region. The rain is expected to taper to showers Saturday night.

With the ground already saturated, there is the potential for local flooding. For information concerning flooding please consult your local Conservation Authority or Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry District office.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Don’t approach washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

Halton Region has issued the following Flooding Booklet, and starting on page 14 is what to do during a flood.
