Entertaining new feature films, short subjects and their makers touch down in Oakville, June 23-25, 2017 for the fourth annual Willson 2017 Oakville Film Festival. With 19 features from around the world and a range of short subjects presented at two venues -- Film.ca and the Oakville Performing Arts Centre -- the festival covers all genres.
“Over the three days, we have everything from afternoon family matinees to romance to film noir and suspense,” says Festival Programmer and Founder Wendy Donnan. “I’m especially proud that we secured the Canadian premiere of ‘The Meaning of Life’ starring Canadian actor/musician Tyler Shaw who will be in attendance along with the full crew 8 pm, Friday June 24, 2017.
“We will also be presenting the good-natured ‘The Time of Their Lives’ which stars Joan Collins and Pauline Collins. The film’s Oscar-nominated British director Roger Goldby will be here for a Q&A. We are also premiering ‘A Ghost Story’ a drama starring Oscar winner Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara. It secured the top film vote at the Sundance Film Festival 2017.”
The festival is also showcasing two films that this week the Guardian identified as among Australia’s top 10 films of the year – the sports drama “Broke” in its Canadian premiere and family film “Red Dog: True Blue,” being screened at the Performing Arts Centre as a family event 2 pm Saturday, June 24, 2017. Film enthusiasts and cinematographers are already talking about two films: “Gear,” a stylish film from Montreal, which recently screened at the prestigious Cannes festival, and the Canadian premiere of “Broken Mile,” a thriller unconventionally recorded in one single camera take.
“It takes a community to support this type of festival,” says Festival board member Tracey Luel. “Willson has been a cherished long-term supporter and this year we are delighted that the Budds’ Premium Automotive Group is also on board.”
