Oakville Festivals of Film and Art (OFFA), Oakville’s first and only independent film and arts festival announces the WORLD FESTIVAL PREMIERE of A Woman’s Story.
The documentary was shot on location in Canada, Rwanda, Bangladesh and Poland, and looks at genocide, survival, and physical and cultural continuity through the eyes of three women who have experienced three different genocides of the 20th century. A Woman’s Story puts women at the front and center of the narrative, transcending their victimization by highlighting their resilience and survival.
“A Woman’s Story performs the function of unsilencing women’s stories from the mainstream narratives on genocide, and it seeks to build coalition between women across borders. We believe it is an important film and we are delighted to be screening it at OFFA 2015,” said Director and Producer Azra Rashid.
Programming Director Wendy Donnan adds “we are so proud to feature the world premiere of a serious, social-issues documentary like A Woman’s Story which is sure to win awards and capture attention around the world. This festival is looking for programming that has an indelible impact on people’s lives, programming that is not easy to forget.”
OFFA 2015 launches at Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts on Friday, 26 June, 2015, with a gala premiere screening: a three-day immersive experience that continues into the weekend with showings all day Saturday and Sunday 27 and 28 June at the film.ca theatres in Oakville.
The Art Immersion Event, featuring talented local and international photographers, rounds out the festival with a major showing, and auction, of the work of over twenty artists, in beautiful downtown Oakville.
OFFA welcomes submissions of many genres and a jury will be selecting films, documentaries, short films, and animation for screening. OFFA’s continuing partnership with Sheridan College in Oakville ensures world premieres of the most talented animation and other artists at the College. Films and photographic art from Oakville and surrounding communities are especially welcome. Prizes will be awarded for the best submissions in each category.
