Are we alone in the universe? Is there life beyond our planet? These are perplexing questions that still have no answer. Maybe they live among us in secret? What if there is more to this world right under our noses that we simply don’t know about or are even aware of? Well, Men in Black: International aims to show us what that might be like.

The original Men in Black was an immensely charming and entertaining story about friendship and saving the world. With this fourth iteration, it is difficult to achieve the same feats. While the leads are great on-screen and the visuals look nice, the supporting cast and the story are straightforward.

The “alien” guns are functionally the same as any standard earth firearms.  The set ups are not as clever as the original. The foes are colourful but standard goons. The artistic design of everything extra terrestrial is wonderful to witness. Some of the best moments in the film are just walking around MIB headquarters, watching everyday Aliens going about their lives.

Fresh after her recruitment into the MIB, Agent M goes on her first mission to London to investigate some strange behaviour. There, she teams up with Agent H and unravels a plot to destroy the world. But H doesn’t seem like himself anymore.

The story jumps from one location to the next, yet it is easy to understand. The chemistry between leads Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson (Agents M and H) is truly enjoyable. They play off each other in a delightful way that feels unique and real.  It is the best part of the movie and the biggest reason to go see it.

As we tumble towards the climax, the twists reveal themselves and the villain finally appears.

If you want something to do, seeing Men in Black: International is an option. It is a basic action movie, and not really going to wow anyone or leave any sort of lasting impression, but it is fun and sometimes that’s all you need.
