Graze the Bench 2014, a 2-day celebration of wine produced on the Beamsville Bench viticultural area of Ontario, began last Saturday with a glorious day of weather, live bands, food and wine pairings at 8 boutique wineries. This annual event in its 6th year was sold out with an expected 2,250 guests grazing the picturesque Beamsville Bench Vineyard Trail.

Each Graze the Bench ticket holder received a commemorative wine glass, first glass of wine, first plate of food, and entry into the private grazing areas set-up at each of the 8 wineries including a new one which just opened the weekend before, Mike Weir Winery. Located on the former EastDell Estates property, this is where my husband and I began our graze. They have done a phenomenal job of reinventing this winery space showcasing their wines and vineyards with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the vines, Lake Ontario, and Toronto in the distance.

The Weir Winery team was awesome showing grazers stellar hospitality from the moment of arrival. Their 2012 Sauvignon Blanc and 2012 Cabernet Merlot wines were flowing out of their state-of-the-art wine taps from stainless steel kegs while Arancini was being served up by Wellington Court Restaurant. With wine in hand we headed outside to enjoy the view from their deck while sipping our wine and listening to Sandy Vine and the Midnights.

Throughout Saturday and Sunday we grazed our way to all 8 wineries which provided for a highly enjoyable weekend full of fantastic music, foodie and wine experiences. Here is a sampling of the wine and food we tasted:

Hidden Bench Vineyards & Winery 2013 HB Rose + Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich by Splendido Restaurant

Fielding Estate Winery 2012 Cabernet Franc + Beef Brisket on Sourdough Bread by August Restaurant

Angels Gate Winery 2010 Mountainview Pinot Noir + Tofu Pockets with Rice: Smoked Salmon and Burmese Beef flavours by The Smokin’ Buddha Restaurant

We ended our graze where we did last year listening to TiannaH & Jazz with a Twist, great music and always a lot of fun at Rosewood Estates Winery, this year sipping their oh so good 2012 Select Pinot Noir. Cheers!
