New product allocation for Ford Oakville Plant called for

This afternoon, Regional Council passed a resolution, proposed by Oakville Mayor Rob Burton, calling on Ford Motor Company of Canada to identify and allocate new product to the Oakville Assembly Plant to ensure the Oakville site is fully utilized.

“Since 1953 Ford, its employees and the Town of Oakville have enjoyed a successful partnership that has enriched the community and the company,” said Mayor Burton of the company, which employs thousands of residents in the Region of Halton.

In September 2013, the Federal Government and the Province of Ontario contributed $142 million in public funding to upgrade global manufacturing processes that would assist the Oakville Assembly Plant switch to newer production models more easily and more efficiently and secure employment for all workers.

“Employees of Ford and their families, along with related industries and services, depend on the operations at the Oakville Assembly Plant,” said Mayor Burton, “and the Region of Halton is committed to being a partner with Ford and Unifor to continue building on our successful and mutually beneficial relationship.”

Mayor Burton is the founder and chair of the Ontario Auto-Mayors caucus, which works collaboratively at the provincial and federal levels to promote awareness, advocacy and strategic policy initiatives to strengthen the Canadian economy by keeping the automotive sector strong.

New Product Allocation Resolution

WHEREAS since 1953 the Ford Motor Company of Canada, its employees, and the Town of Oakville, have enjoyed a successful partnership that has enriched the community and the company;

WHEREAS Ford Motor Company of Canada has been a valued member of the Town and the community and employs thousands of residents in the Region of Halton;

WHEREAS the employees of the Oakville Assembly Plant are a highly skilled and experienced workforce that have demonstrated to be flexible and adaptable to changes in the industry;

WHEREAS employees of Ford Motor Company of Canada and their families along with related industries and services depend on the operations at the Oakville Assembly Plant;

WHEREAS in September 2013, the Federal Government and the Province of Ontario contributed $142 million in public funding to upgrade global manufacturing processes that would assist the Oakville Assembly Plant switch to newer production models more easily and more efficiently and secure employment for all workers;

WHEREAS the Region of Halton is committed to being a partner with Ford and Unifor and to continue building on our successful and mutually beneficial relationship;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:

THAT the Region of Halton calls on Ford to identify and allocate new production to the Oakville Assembly Plant to ensure that the Oakville site is fully utilised;

AND THAT that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Ford Motor Company, Unifor Local 707, Unifor Canada, the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade of Ontario, the Premier of Ontario Doug Ford and the Federal Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and be made available to the public.
