Oakville Eats: Gelato, Pastry & Chicken

In the past couple of months a few new places have open up that are worth mentioning and their range of offerings are worth the visit: The Danish Pastry House, La Dolce Vita, and Chicken Squared.

The Danish Pastry House was in the GTA for several years, but recently they decided to re-locate to Oakville, and we are the luckier for it. The shop offers a wide variety of classic danish pastries that melt in your mouth, and to wash them down a nice fresh dose of coffee. The basis of danish pastries is a buttery flaky croissant like crust rolled, or curled and can be filled with almond paste, chocolate, apples and other assorted fruits, jellies and jams.  There are also hand-made soft marshmallow type cookies, meringues and rum balls. There isn't a place to sit, so the offerings are strictly for take-out.

Chicken Squared offers exactly what one would expect, delightfully juicy fried chicken. You can tell how good the food is by the number of construction workers who have found the place and keep returning. There is more on the menu than chicken, such as burgers and fries. There is plenty room to sit and enjoy the local soccer game, or just get them to wrap up some chicken for the family. This is a family run place, and you can feel the heart this family has put into Chicken Squared.

La Dolce Vita has finally opened its doors on Lakeshore Road West. This is a slick stylish modern Italian cafe that easily could exist in Rome of Milan, but we are lucky to that the owners decided to land in Oakville. From coffee to tiles, from paninis to pizza, from gelato to pastries, it's Italian all the way. The assortment of gelato's that are made on site is simply astounding, and they'll let you taste each one if you like. There isn't one that didn't throughly enjoy, but in case you are looking for something savoury, the chicken sandwich with home made tomato sauce will quench your appetite.  Everything is fresh from the coffee to the orange juice. There are places to sit an eat, but it appears from the early reception that La Doche Vita might need to figure out how to squeeze in a few more chairs.

So Oakville, we have been treated to even more fabulous new places to eat.
