Oakville Eats: Harpers Landing

Restaurants
Restaurants

South East Oakville is now home to a casual family friendly restaurant reminiscent of what you would see in Whistler Village with wooden beams, 30 foot ceilings, a large central bar, and floor to ceiling windows.

Harpers Landing, which opened two weeks ago, has three distinct sections: a lounge with fireplace, comfy chairs and low tables; the bar with high tables, and padded lounge chairs around the actual bar with eight large screen TV's playing sports, and the dining room with intimate booths, regular tables, and an area which can be cleverly cordoned off with large wooden doors to create a private dinning room. Regardless of where you sit, you'll be comfortable and easily able to carry on a conversation with your friends.

Harpers Landing offers lunch, dinner and brunch on weekends. Prices range from $8.00 for a salad to $30.00 for a steak. The portions are comfortable allowing big appetites to have three courses and feel full. There is a full children's menu, and not too worry they stock plenty of chocolate milk.

The food is well prepared and well seasoned, but since everything is made from scratch you can have the seasoning reduced or ingredients altered. I've eaten here several times and the kitchen has been very accommodating.

The style of food is classically contemporary from the caesar, to breakfast tacos, to steak frites. There is really something for everyone including a large selection of gluten free options. You'll find several versions of eggs Benedict and a good selection of burgers. For the oenophiles there is an extensive selection of wines, fairly priced, including one bottle that will set you back $495.00. They've even created a few specialty drinks for the more adventurous. For people with a sweet tooth, the desserts are homemade and delicious; my favourite is the sticky toffee pudding.

The staff is solid, kind, generous and good looking. They know the menu from direct experience demonstrating that these owners know how to deliver a first class dining experience. Having happy diners is definitively top of mind for everyone involved.

From the early positive reception it appears that the community is very happy with their new restaurant - which means that making reservations will likely be a necessity in the not to distant future. Harpers Landing is located on the north side of Cornwall Road between Chartwell and Watson.
