A new chocolatier has arrived in Oakville, taking over the location of the much loved but lost Circus Chocolates. There must be something sweet about the location, because delicious delights are again available at 109 Thomas Street in Downtown Oakville.

The new proprietor of Schilling’s, whose name is Susie is a past professor of George Brown’s well respected culinary school. She is a European trained chocolatier, who brings a taste of central Europe to Oakville.

I have eaten here several times enjoying an assortment of truffles, which would bring a smile to any person’s face, as well as a sumptuous quiche Lorraine and salad making for a satisfying lunch. There are also such classical desserts as Apple Strudel, Sacher Torte and my personal favorite Dobos Torte. Desserts are available by the piece or entire cake. Lunches can include homemade soups and sandwiches are also available to go.

Prices range for lunch from $15.00 to $20.00 per person and would include: coffee, sandwich, and side salad along with dessert . However, if you just want a sandwich and a coffee you can easily walk out with a tab just under $10.00 per person. Desserts are mainly priced between from $3.95 to $4.95. A four piece truffle box take comes beautifully packaged is $6.95.

Susie is passionate about chocolate, and her eyes sparkle when she talks about the quality and variety of chocolate she brings into the shop. If you love chocolate you’ll enjoy Schiller’s.

To place an order you’ll need to go up to the counter, then they prepare your meal and bring it to your table. You pay before you leave and they do accept debit as well as credit – though not American Express. The service is a work in progress, and each time I’ve come it has become more professional.

The ambience is bright and cheerful with only nine tables and white bistro chairs. There is soft, French inspired jazzy tunes playing in the background. Unfortunately, the patisserie is not wheelchair friendly, since there are two steps up to the shop and the bathroom is located in the basement.

So if you are looking for a great light lunch, dessert and coffee, or a box of chocolates for a friend or loved one. You'll want to check out Oakville's latest gem: Schilling's Patisserie aux Chocolate.
