Sammy's Famous Chip Wagon has long been famous in Oakville for its celebrated deep fried fish, chicken and chips. After four years of supporting Oakville’s Terry Fox Run, Sammy’s is also becoming famous for its community spirit and commitment to making a difference.

On Friday, September 1,2017 Sammy's Famous Chip Wagon, located at 2376 Lakeshore Road West in Bronte, will host its fifth annual Terry Fox fundraiser with lunch proceeds going directly to support this year’s 37th annual Terry Fox Run. Thanks to owner Sammy Rawdah, the event has raised nearly $4,000 to date in support of Oakville’s Run. Sammy’s Famous will donate 100% of lunch proceeds between 11:00am and 2:00pm.

Each year as Sammy prepares to host his pre-run lunch fundraiser, he leads supporters along the same route Terry himself took through Bronte along Lakeshore Road in memory of a young man who changed Canadian history forever. If you would like to participate in the symbolic retracing of Terry’s steps through Bronte, please arrive at Sammy’s Famous Chip Wagon at 11:00am. 2017 Terry Fox Run t-shirts will also be on sale.

“The support of local businesses like Sammy's Famous Chip Wagon is so important to the Oakville community and to the success of the Terry Fox Run,” said Pam Damoff, Chair of the Oakville Terry Fox Run. “By teaming up with the Terry Fox Run to raise funds for cancer research, Sammy’s is continuing a long-standing commitment to improving the lives of everyone who lives in Oakville.”

“Terry Fox ran a full marathon every day for more than half a year to raise money and awareness for improved research and treatment for all forms of cancer,” said Rawdah. “It is the least we can do to honour his legacy by retracing his steps through Bronte and celebrating his memory and helping to achieve his dream by donating all proceeds from lunch on September 1, 2017 to cancer research in Terry’s name.”

Registration for run teams is now open. Forming a team for Terry is as simple as choosing a team name and registering it online at www.terryfox.org by clicking on the “Teams” tab.

Teams can be inspired by others or as a way to involve your business or a group of friends to take part in the event. Teams can be as few as two people or as many as 200 or more. Teaming up for Terry is a special opportunity to come together to make a difference in the fight against cancer and to bond as families, friends, team mates and colleagues while showing your commitment to giving back. With no entry fee or minimal required donation, the only expectations are the ones you set for your organization as a Terry Fox Team Captain.

Teams are invited to set up a tent or table at Coronation Park on Run morning to host their team members, friends and families. You can also pre-order team t-shirts and have them printed with your team name. It is time to set up your team and begin fundraising now. If you need help setting up your team or if you need fundraising ideas, please feel free to contact Keri Schoonderwoerd [email protected].

The 37th Annual Terry Fox Run will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Coronation Park at 10:00 am, with registration at 9 am. Walk, bike, board, blade, run, push a stroller or walk the dog along a beautiful lake-side 2k, 5k or 10k route.
