A year ago, TIFF reached out to the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design at Sheridan College to invite it to contribute to The Cronenberg Project – a multi-platform celebration of the work of one of the world’s greatest filmmakers, David Cronenberg.
When The Cronenberg Project opens at TIFF Bell Lightbox on November 1, it will be complemented by the David Cronenberg: Virtual Exhibition, which launches online and in CIBC Canadian Film Gallery at TIFF Bell Lightbox in Fall 2013. With support from the Canadian Department of Heritage and in partnership with TIFF, a team of Sheridan staff and alumni have worked together to create an interactive, virtual timeline that traces Cronenberg’s career through the existential questions he addresses in his films. The timeline forms an integral part of the Virtual Exhibition, which is projected to have longer term educational applications.
Matt Weichec, a 2010 alumnus of the Sheridan/York Bachelor of Design project, led Sheridan’s design team, including Song Ho Ahn as lead programmer, along with staff members Ian Howatson, Jonathan Eger and Damian Domagala.
“We are delighted that TIFF approached us to participate in this groundbreaking project,” says Angela Stukator, Associate Dean in FAAD. “It was a great opportunity to demonstrate our talents for animation and web design, and to produce a creative, interactive and meaningful retrospective of Cronenberg’s career.”
