Since we are finally enjoying some spring sunshine and beautiful weather you may be asking yourself, "What wine should I select to go with my barbecue?" For smoky, grilled dishes made with big flavours from sauces or rubs, try a Syrah or Cabernet Sauvignon. The Organized Crime Winery in Beamsville has the goods to go with grilled meats, offering both a single varietal Cabernet Sauvignon and a Syrah.

Ontario wineries also produce many excellent red blends. You might consider the 2011 Long Rows Red from Rosewood Estates Winery or the 2010 Cabernet Merlot from Angels Gate Winery to complement your next grill session.

There are many Niagara wineries putting on outdoor events as we approach summer. Frogpond, an organic winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake, is hosting Art in the Vineyard for the third year. They have an incredible line-up of artists from Ontario, including Nancy McLean , Ruth MaierEva Ivanov and many more displaying their work, ranging from oil paintings and mixed media to jewelry.

Frogpond is "a small family run winery that believes in the benefits of supporting Ontario talent and buying local and would like to bring awareness to the amazing artists throughout the region." This is a great opportunity to enjoy the weather while strolling around the art displays. Niagara musicians, A Book For Wanderers, Hell County Bluesmen, and Stew Brennand, will be playing throughout the weekend of June 22-23, 2013. Bring yourself a picnic and a blanket, or find a seat on one of their benches or picnic tables. Light organic snacks, grape juice, and of course wine will be available for purchase. Admission to this event is free!

Speaking of wine, what's happening in Oakville? The next presenter for the Oakville Wine Enthusiasts Club is LG Wine Imports on Friday, May 31, 2013. So there you have it: Sunshine, Barbecue, and Art.
