This odd romantic comedy is exactly that, a romantic comedy with a few sight gags thrown in. We're The Millers is the story of a drug dealer David Clark (Jason Sudeikis) who gets robbed of his stash and cash. His cash in large part is owed to the maniacal drug lord of Denver Brad Grudlinger (Ed Helms). David does his best to avoid Brad, but eventually gets dragged in to pay his debt. Brad is willing to wipe the slate clean if David becomes a one time drug mule bringing up a shipment of marijuana from Mexico. David doesn't have a choice.
In order not to arouse suspicion at the border from Mexico to the US, David decides he'll use a large RV and a happy suburban family. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a family, so enlists the help of a stripper Rose O'Reily (Jennifer Aniston) who plays mom, a homeless tattooed girl Casey Mathis (Emma Roberts) as the daughter, and Kenny Rossmore (Will Poulter) the nerdy 18 year who is left to his own devises by his partying negligent mother as the son.
This quartet of troubled and challenged characters evolve from disassociated self-centred individuals into a caring but slightly odd family. The bonding agents are encounters with a DEA and his family who are also traveling in an RV, to a very unhappy Mexican drug distributor whom they discover is the true owner of the shipment. Each interaction tightens the group. It really requires the audience to suspend their intelligence and just play along. If you're in the right frame of mind - it is possible.

This is Rawson Marshall Thurber's first mainstream Hollywood movie as a director. He also has an actor credit portraying a US border guard. If this is what Rawson is offering, we will not be seeing much more from him.
We're The Millers is not a challenging movie, but was good enough to leave me with a smile on my face. There is a certain amount of sexual language through out the movie, so if you find this offensive, you might want to take a pass. If you are looking for a light fun movie, that isn't going to challenge you - We're The Millers isn't a bad choice.
