Kerr Street Cafe is my go to place in Oakville for breakfast and lunch. Alex Flye and Shaun Waitzer started off as caterers in Muskoka, and as their summer business grew – Alex who’s born in Oakville & Shaun – decided to broaden their business to include Oakville. They opened Kerr Street Cafe two and a half years ago, and the general consensus has been extremely positive. The café is the front end of their very successful catering business.

The food is always fresh, healthy, and to top it off creatively delicious. I’ve had everything on the menu at least once – and whatever I choose is consistently great. It ranges from breakfast with Eggs Benedict to lunch with smoke salmon & brie paninis. Everyday there are specials from salads to desserts. You’ll never get bored of the selection. One of the excellent items they’ve introduced to the coffee crazed are flat whites – a cross between a cafe-au-lait and a cappuccino. The only unfortunate element of the cafe is that it isn’t open for dinner. However, they always have a stocked freezer of meals.

Meals range in price from as low as $7 to as high as $15. The atmosphere is modern eclectic with bright orange chairs to white walls hung with cutting edge art. The art changes regularly due to their relationship with in2art, a local gallery. This is one café with staying power.

Kerr Street Cafe is located at 298 Kerr Street. They do not take reservations. Their hours of operation is 8′ish to 4′ish.

Update

Since this article was published in December 2012, Kerr Street Cafe has grown and evolved. They've doubled their size to accommodate all the people who were lining up to eat there, and their menu has changed to keep up with changing tastes.

However, the basic tenants of a good restaurant remain. The food is freshly prepared, the atmosphere is inviting, and the service is always excellent.
