Every town has one. A diner that has been there since the dawn of time, and Oakville is no different. White Oak Restaurant in the heart of Old Oakville's shopping district has been under the careful supervision of Angie & Gus for just over 35 years. Originally from Greece, they decided that Oakville was the place they wanted to call home. Oakville is grateful.

As you would expect from a local diner the menu drawn on a chalk board includes: scrambled eggs with home fried potatoes, bacon or sausage, a side of toast with a cup of coffee for $5.15. I'm not sure how Gus & Angie can make a go of it at these prices, but thankfully they do. The menu is classic from grilled cheese to burgers to eggs. The coffee is good and hot, and the service is always friendly. They only take cash, but at their prices, you can't argue.

IMG_0414The room has a large serving counter you can sit at, have a cup of coffee, and enjoy the paper. The floors are vinyl, and the light fixtures are vintage 1960's. Retro is definitively the vibe. The patrons range from Probus members coming together for a coffee after their meeting, to local celebrities like Ron MacLean with his dad, to teenagers looking for a bite to eat after a night partying. It really is a local hang out.

A great line I over heard after the Tim Horton's on Trafalgar and Randal closed came from an elderly gentleman who asked Angie: "So are you going to start opening on Mondays, since Tim's is closed."

She responded, "Six days is enough, I've got to have one day of rest".

Recommending the White Oak Restaurant is a pleasure.
