Oakville residents Jason and Angele Montplaisir say they will miss taking care of the marina's signature flag

The Bronte Marina is an iconic staple of Oakville's downtown core and with that comes it's small flag near the pathway that hangs off the edge of the pier.

Since 2023, Oakvillian Jason Montplaisir and his wife, Angele Montplaisir, have been maintaining the condition of the flag, keeping it in the beautiful shape it deserves.

But sadly, Jason announced via a post on Facebook that he will no longer be able to up keep the flags condition at the marina.

Maintaining the flag meant so much to the Montplaisirs.

"We have a deep love for Canada and all that the flag stands for," said Jason.

"We have road tripped across the country on multiple occasions, flown coast to coast and lived in several different cities, towns, villages and hamlets.  But Bronte has truly become home for us.

"The Flag's importance was a simple one. It was a reminder for me of a great memory, and it was something that Angele and I would see every time we would go for our walks around the harbour.

"To see the crisp red and white colours flowing in the wind, its such a beautiful site to see."

The couple loved keeping up the condition of the flag and will miss not being able to do so anymore.

Although Jason and his wife will no longer be changing out the flag at the marina, the two replaced an old flag with a crisp new one as recently as of  Wednesday, Feb. 26 2025.

The two are actively searching for someone else to maintain the flag in their place.
