The town is moving ahead with the construction phase of the Southeast Community Centre (SECC) and the new 0.6 hectare neighbourhood park. It is anticipated to open in Fall 2020.

To mark the end of the demolition phase of the hospital and the beginning of the construction phase for the community centre, the town officially broke ground at the site on Wednesday, September 26, 2018.

Construction Update: March 2019

In the coming month you will see:

  • Structural steel and roof installation
  • Wood and steel deck installation
  • Concrete pouring on steel deck
  • Precast concrete installation
  • Building envelope installation
  • Exterior walls installation
  • Ongoing construction activities on Saturdays


To accommodate construction, some trees must be removed. However, more trees will be planted after the end of construction. Almost 100 trees are expected to be planted in the community centre’s parks. Even more trees will be planted as part of the seniors’ development and residential projects.

The construction site remains closed to the public.

Southeast Community Centre and Neighbourhood Park

The southeast community centre will have a modern building design that respects the adjacent heritage district as well the designated high school.

It will include:

  • 25-metre lap pool
  • warm water pool
  • double gymnasium
  • fitness centre with a running track
  • multipurpose meeting rooms
  • space for intergenerational programming


Oakville Hydro and the town partnered to build a LEED-certified energy-efficient building. It will include:

  • rooftop solar panels
  • geo-thermal heating and cooling
  • car charging station
  • battery energy storage system


The neighbourhood park next to the community centre will including:

  • soft landscaping and trees
  • seating
  • a play structure
  • lawn areas
  • a water play area
  • pavilion
  • bicycle parking

Allan Street Open Space – Wyndham Parkette

The Allan Street open space now has a name!

Wyndham Parkette is a new park being developed at Allan Street and Sheddon Avenue. Given its proximity to Wyndham Manor and proposed seniors-oriented housing block, the parkette will be designed for use by caregivers, visiting family and friends, and nearby residents.

It will include:

  • gently sloping pathways
  • soft landscaping
  • diverse seating areas
  • accessibility for wheelchairs and walkers


Construction is expected to start in spring 2019 and be completed by September. Learn more on the Wyndham Parkette Development page.
